José Carlos Guerreiro is the jewelry designer of the GUERREIRO brand. In the 60’s he became famous painting people from the national and international jet set with their portraits in black and white. He worked as a model for important brands, such as Ted Lapidus, Valentino and the highly respected Dener, besides the participation of Rita Lee, Tim Maia, Jorge Benjor and Mila Moreira.
Guerreiro entered the world of jewelry in 1970, enchating and winning over the golden youths with the design of his silver pieces. Owner of a unique style and of unusual mixtures of raw materials, such as elephant tail. His famous bracelets of alpaca with copper, used for engraving the name, won the approval of the public and were a symbol of their time. In this same period of his history, he opened his first store in partnership with Walter Mancini: called Tenda Cigana (Gypsy Tent). With a special décor, the store functioned as an open gallery in a garage in the prestigious region of Jardim América, in São Paulo – and rith there, Guerreiro received his clientele as an artsan and creator of his jewelry.
It became necessary to have another space. He opened a new store on Rua Augusta, a place frequented by artists, famous people from São Paulo society, politicians and young students from traditional schools. In 1972, he formed a partnership with actor Luis Gustavo that lasted until 1983, period in which the GUERREIRO brand attracted the attention of celebrities, Johnny Mattis, Carla Sodré, governador Paulo Egydio Martins, and others.
With the reopening of the brand in the year 2000, Guerreiro began to dedicate his time exclusively to the creation of pieces, maintaining his original style and reckoning with the contribution of his wife, Glória Guerreiro, and his daughter, Juliana Buzolin, who brought a more refined esthetic view and inspirations from major international trends. With manual development at all times in his metalsmith workshop, the jewelry is manufactured with prime materials, such as silver, gold and precious stones, appealing to audiences of all ages and offering a style that is both more modern and enterprising at the same time.
With a contemporary profile, the GUERREIRO stores are presently found at important locations of the luxury market such as the Iguatemi Shopping Center (2001), Oscar Freire Street (2006) and the Cidade Jardim Shopping Center (2010), all in São Paulo. The brand is also present at the Galleria Shopping Center (2010) in Campinas and the Fashion Mall (2004) in Rio de Janeiro. In 2003 the brand started its international expansion with the inauguration of its store in Saint-Tropez (2005) in France.
The brand’s main products are bracelets for men and women in silver and leather, the scapular and the famous Christ that turned the designer John Galiano into a client. Many other personalities were seduced by the GUERREIRO design such as Rico Mansur, Astrid Fontenelle, Lenny Mattos, Isabeli Fontana, Adriane Galisteu, Kate Moss, Dominico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana, Michael Schumacher, Grace Jones, Victoria and David Beckham.
At the end of 2008, GUERREIRO marked its presence on the Cia. Marítima catwalk. The highly respected designer developed jewels in silver to be applied to some of Cia. Marítima’s most important pieces. The famous and desired “knots” and the iconic chains and hearts from the 1970s were some of the pieces that were chosen as objects of desire for one-piece swimsuits and bikinis. It was a fun combination of silver and knotted fabrics, creating a chic and sophisticated parallel on the carioca catwalk.
Always tuned into current trends, the GUERREIRO brand launches jewelry of concept and meaning. One example is the Kaballah Collection – millenary wisdom that lights up the path to a fuller life, which during thousands of years remained a secret among a privileged few. Now the power of the Kaballah has been revealed by GUERREIRO in a collection of jewelry made up of true amulets of light. Today the GUERREIRO brand is present in the most important fashion editorials from Brazil and the rest of the world, presenting more than jewels: a contemporary style of the new jewelry store.
